THEMATIC QUARTER 4
HIGH SCHOOL DAY
Ugh, that rooster. Seriously, 5 AM? My dream about endless lechon was brutally interrupted. Breakfast was a rushed affair – a couple of pan de sal, a smear of kesong puti, and a gulp of water. Finding my books was like searching for buried treasure; they were usually hidden under a pile of crumpled papers and forgotten assignments. The tricycle ride was a little less chaotic than the jeepney, but still an adventure – a bumpy ride through the streets, the smell of exhaust fumes mixing with the sweet scent of mangoes from a nearby fruit stand. School hallways? A human river, a constant jostle of students, teachers, and the ever-watchful security guards.
Classes were… classes. Math was a constant battle, but Filipino and history were awesome – a real connection to my roots. Art class was my escape, a chance to just… create. Lunch was all about catching up with friends, sharing baon, and the inevitable school gossip. The canteen was a noisy, vibrant mess, but the library was my quiet sanctuary.
That final bell? Pure heaven. Homework was mostly done (I might have skipped a few problems in math… don't tell anyone). The walk home was a chance to just breathe, to let the day sink in. High school in the Philippines? It was a crazy, chaotic, beautiful mess. Full of laughter, frustration, friendships, and a whole lot of lechon dreams. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
